Welcome to 12 Weeks of Beanies and Beanie No 7! We’ve over halfway through the series and this one is SO GOOD! This free knitting pattern for Beanie No 7 was created for my hubs so it’s extra long and cozy and a great free knitting pattern for a beginner knitter who wants to practice their knits and purls. The free knitting pattern is easy to memorize and easy to knit, making it a win all around!
The beginner knitting pattern for Beanie No 7 was created specifically with length and warmth in mind, as well as keeping the hat budget friendly. I also wanted a hat I could knit up in a weekend, so using a thicker yarn was also a requirement. Lion Brand Wool Ease is a medium thickness yarn that is wooly and warm and also quite thick and squishy so it fit the bill quite perfectly.
FYI – the ENTIRE beanie series is FREE here on the blog. It’s a series of knit and crochet beanies that help you practice beginner stitches while still creating interesting and gorgeous fabrics. I chose beanie patterns to start with since they’re fairly quick and you’ll get some instant gratification from that! You can find the first free pattern for Beanie No 1 here, but don’t miss out when a new patterns drops! Sign up for my newsletter to be notified of new designs before anyone else,
AND another thing – I plan to make these 12 beanie patterns into an eBook that you can purchase from my website or on Ravelry.com once they’ve all been published here on my blog! The eBook will be professionally formatted, include a range of sizes for each beanie pattern, and be a great collection of beanies you can refer to every year for personal and gift crocheting or knitting.

Construction + Fit/Ease
Beanie No 7 is constructed bottom up in the round. You first cast on, join, and then work the brim ribbing. After the brim has been worked, you’ll work the body and then decrease for the crown. The hat has a negative ease of 2” to keep it snug and tight over your ears for maximum warmth.
Yarn Notes
I chose to use yarn from my stash that was a bit bulkier and had some wool content in it for warmth, so I ended up using Lion Brand Wool Ease, which is a wool/acrylic blend in a medium size 4 weight. That made this beanie project pretty budget-friendly, but sometimes you want to splurge on a special project, and this one would be great for that. Some great yarn choices for this beanie include:
$$$ Malabrigo Rios – a REALLY great superwash wool choice with some gorgeous color options
$$ Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino from the cutest online yarn shop La Mercerie
$ Lion Brand Wool Ease from Joann’s

I just discovered your blog. I appreciate your patterns not only because they are cute but because you include yarn choices and tutorial links. I am an experienced crocheter but a beginning knitter. Perfect to go through my yarn stash and hopefully widen my knitting skills.
Aw! Thank you so much! I’m so glad you like that. I wanted to give people options for all budgets, and I want to make sure everyone can make the patterns. I’m also an experienced crocheter and a relatively new knitter so we will learn together! Thanks for stopping by.
